Today was a planned day of rest — 5 days down, 5 to go.
We stayed in Llanberis and did our best to relax and rest our feet. We managed a bit of a lakeside walk (and two geocaches), and after lunch we took the Snowdon Mountain Railway steam train up to the summit of Mt. Snowdon.
About 5 minutes into the train ride you go past a neat waterfall:
Farther up we also had a nice view up Llanberis Pass. There’s a route up Snowdon from that side that I’d like to try sometime!
It was a perfect day for the summit, with just a few clouds here and there to add interest without obstructing our view. And it was much warmer than the other time I hiked up the Llanberis Path, not to mention significantly easier!
The view east was beautiful, making me want to explore those lakes and ridges:
The view west was exciting — that’s where we are headed next. It seems so tiny and far away from here!
At one point we noticed a glider circling the summit over and over. I think everyone turned to watch:
After the train ride we had a break for tea/coffee and cakes, walked back to the hotel, and promptly decided to stay in for dinner. A good rest while still enjoying the area. Tomorrow is our longest day, so hopefully we’re well prepared for it!
Cool train.
Yeah! It’s one of the steam trains that takes visitors up to Mt. Snowdon. (I couldn’t convince my parents to add a walk up the mountain to our pilgrim walk, hehe!)
