Today I ventured out for a 6.25-mile walk around Conwy. I wasn’t sure exactly where I’d go, just that I wanted to walk at least 6 miles. So I started out on a familiar path into Conwy, down to the quay, and along the path around Bodlondeb Woods.
From there, instead of turning toward home, I decided to head toward the Conwy marina and beyond it to Conwy Beach. The rows of houses in Deganwy across the water feel like a quintessential Welsh beach town, with the hill behind them holding the remains of Deganwy Castle.
In the past, when I walked out to the marina, this is when I turned around. But today I wasn’t in any kind of hurry, and the warm temperatures invited me to continue on. Here is where the Wales Coast Path winds around a golf course, making a trail between the green and the beach.
I also took this opportunity, about halfway around the path, to find a geocache I have been eying for at least a year. (I also realized I walked right past a couple others on my way to this one — one is quite new and I hadn’t checked the app ahead of time!) There were a number of golfers on the course and people strolling on the sand, but no one near enough to cause trouble as I looked for the cache.
As I turned toward the end of the path around the golf course, my attention also turned to Conwy Mountain above me. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of the combination of sea and hills in this area.
From the end of that path I walked back toward the marina and to the path back to Conwy quay. I was only at about 4.5 miles at this point, so to add a bit of distance I walked across Conwy river and back. I got a bonus view of the castle, but what caught my eye today were the boats.
At that point a bit of rain was coming through and started to pick up, so I walked my last mile or so around the outside of town and back home.
