It has been a bit quiet on my blog lately. In August I changed roles at work, and much of my energy since then has been focused on settling in to that role and making the most of my free time outside of work. Writing about those experiences got a bit shoved to the side.
If you’re curious what I was up to, I just published some backdated posts to fill in some of the gaps:
I also had a lot of travel, including a trip to Chicago for a friend’s wedding (and a side trip to Iowa to visit family), a work trip to Madrid, three whole weeks with my family in Iowa around the holidays (the longest I’ve been there in at least 10 years!), and another work trip to Los Angeles. I don’t have a whole lot to write about those trips, but some of the photos will show up on Happy Photos (my photo blog, which I’m trying to revive).
Now that I’m back home in Wales, I’m trying to find a routine again and settle back into my normal expat life. It’s funny to spend so much time in my hometown, happily surrounded by family, but then have such a feeling of being home now that I’m back here. (And it’s not terribly unique for an expat to say, but I wish I could have both at the same time!)
You’re so right about having a ‘home’ in more than one country. I feel very much at home in Wales now, but I still have feelings for other places I’ve lived, especially New Zealand where I grew up, even though I have no family living there now.
Sut mae dy Gymraeg nawr?
Sadly, my Welsh hasn’t made much progress! But my Farsi is slowly improving, which is actually more practical for me, even living here. 🙂
