I wasn’t sure if I should accept the cabeceo. I hadn’t seen this leader dancing before, so I wasn’t sure what it would be like to dance with him. But I was new to the milonga—every dance would be a bit of a gamble, and I was feeling daring.
As soon as we started dancing, I felt the connection. We heard the music together. I didn’t even have to think about it. It was one of those rare moments where the leader didn’t just have good musicality—he had the same musicality as me. Everything just happened, it just flowed.
When we danced the milonga tanda, I completely blissed out. Partway through the tanda, everything disappeared. Even me. It was just music and movement, but I wasn’t even really aware of the movement. I just knew that there was motion, that I was completely in tune with the music and my leader.
Tango bliss.
