Today I took my A2 German test. Assuming all goes well, by Friday I will officially be an A2 German speaker. Woohoo!
After finishing the test, I wandered across the street to the Mayersche Buchhandlung. I started browsing their sale books: €3 for one book, €5 for two. I looked for novels or other easy reading by German authors, but nothing caught my eye. I did, however, come across Das Jahr Der Flut (The Year of the Flood), by Margaret Atwood and translated by Monika Schmalz.
I already know that I enjoy Margaret Atwood’s work. I recommend Oryx and Crake and The Handmaid’s Tale to anyone who is curious. I decided to pick up this novel and give it a try in German. I will be taking a month off from my German classes, so this seems like it will be a good way to keep working on my language skills. And maybe afterwards I will read the novel in English to compare.
Does anyone have recommendations for good books (preferably by German authors) that might be good for an A2-level speaker? I’m also up for a challenge, as long as it’s a good book!
